Why Attending a Drug Addiction Detox Center is Necessary

Attempting to detox alone is dangerous, and can be life-threatening in some cases. How difficult the process of withdrawal is heavily depends on the type of drug that an individual uses as well as the severity and length of the addiction.

Over time, the body develops a dependence on a user’s drug of choice. This dependence is what leads to withdrawal symptoms. Because the body is no longer able to function on its own, it begins to crave this substance. Many people give up in the early stages of withdrawal because it’s easier to give the body what it wants than to continue trying to live a life of sobriety. This is where a detox facility comes in because we can offer 24-hour medical care, a safe environment and counseling for mental and emotional support.

What to Expect During Drug Detox

Upon intake at Remedy Detox Centers, we complete a screening and assessment. We identify the strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences of each client to integrate an individual plan of care. Our clients can work collaboratively with our addiction specialist physician to develop the best course of action to ease the physical symptoms of withdrawal.

On average a detox takes 3 to 10 days but we encourage our clients to meet our discharge criteria before taking the next step in treatment. During the detox process, our client’s come together with Remedy’s treatment team to work on initial treatment goals, additional stabilization, and developing referrals to support services if necessary. To ensure our clients meet the appropriate discharge criteria we offer a short-term residential track as well as detox center services.

Preparing for Drug Treatment

The main purpose of drug detox is to rid the body of mind altering substances and to prepare our clients for lasting sobriety. In a chemical-altered state of mind, people suffering from addiction are not ready to be fully responsible for their continuum of care. To better lay a solid foundation for treatment, they need to get their head clear, then make a plan of action. Our clients have daily access to our trained accredited clinicians to help with the process.

Once they’ve completed detox, we collaborate with our clients to help them find the most individually beneficial treatment programs. These programs may include any of the following:

  • Residential
  • Intensive outpatient
  • Outpatient
  • Partial hospitalization

In order to prepare our clients for sustainable sobriety, we put together an individualized plan of action for treatment and continuing care after drug detox.
