Detox is the first formal step in addiction recovery. From our Detox program, clients go on to choose from a variety of addiction treatment options. At Remedy Detox Centers we individualize our care to ensure that each client who comes through our doors goes to the appropriate level of addiction treatment when they leave us. Below, you can learn more about the options for treatment planning after detox.
Inpatient treatment takes place in a residential setting. Here, individuals in recovery live at a treatment facility for anywhere from 30 days to half a year, depending on what the program offers. Most people begin treatment in a residential setting because it offers the most accountability and structure.
Inpatient treatment services often include some form of talk therapy, group therapy, and holistic options for recovery. These vary depending on the facility. It’s important to choose the facility that fits the client’s needs to give them the best chance at success.
Partial hospitalization programs (PHP) are nearly as intensive as inpatient programs. The main difference is that clients don’t stay onsite in a partial hospitalization program. Instead, they may stay at housing provided offsite by the facility or even go home in the evenings.
A PHP generally operates five days per week to include at least six hours per day. However, some programs extend these hours into the weekends to give clients extra time for counseling and monitoring.
Intensive Outpatient Treatment
An intensive outpatient treatment program (IOP) is a step down from both detox, residential, and partial hospitalization programs. This type of program is ideal for individuals who have the following:
- Responsibilities at home that they can’t neglect
- Strong sober support system
- Less severe addiction symptoms
Individuals who graduate from residential and partial hospitalization programs also do well in an IOP. Since an IOP isn’t residential, clients are able to spend their day at a treatment facility and go home to their families in the evening. Clients who are not living at home are often living at an independent sober living at this time. This type of program is most ideal for people who have positive home environments. They still receive the same treatments as clients at inpatient treatment centers, but with more flexibility and less structure.
Generally speaking, outpatient treatment is only ideal for people who have already completed time in a residential setting or completed a full intensive outpatient program. A regular outpatient program may only take place two to three days per week for a couple of hours after work or school. Outpatient treatment includes one-on-one therapy and group therapy in most instances.
When clients finish with detox and various addiction treatment programs, aftercare is an important continuing step. Aftercare might include some or all of the following: 12-step programs, rehab alumni groups, counseling or holistic treatments. Often, these are simply continuations of relapse prevention techniques that clients learn at inpatient or outpatient treatment to help them maintain their sobriety. Aftercare also serves at a time for clients to have ongoing support while they are going to school, working, etc.
